CLA
Conjugated linoleic acid is to be found in the family of lipo-blocking fatty acids. It works on the fat mass by diminishing the stocking of fat in the adipocytes.
Cameline oil
Vegetal oil rich in ALA with hydrating and soothing properties.
Caroténoids
Coloured pigments which are mainly synthesized by the vegetals and brought to us exclusively through our food. They have a protective role to play vis-à-vis oxidation reactions which are at the origin of cellular ageing. In man, the main ones to be found are lycopene, lutein, beta-carotene and alpha-carotene.
Cataract
An opacification of the chrystallin due to age and to harmful exterior effects. At the moment, surgery remains the only way to remove a cataract
Catéchins
Active tea extracts selected for their lipolitic activity.
Cholestérol
It is classified in the lipids, either free, or linked to fatty acids. It is a constituent element of the cell membranes and the precursor of important molecules in the organism (vitamin D3, biliary salts, estrogens…). However, above and beyond a certain level in the plasma, it is known as hypercholesteremia, a disorder that could lead to artherosclerosis.
Chromium
Trace element which reinforces the functioning of insulin and that of glycolysis, in the form of “a glucose tolerance factor”.
Chrystallin
An element of the eye which is to be found behind the iris, which it accommodates.
Collagen
A protein which is a component of the fibres to be found between the cells of the conjunctive tissue. It is present to a large degree in the skin and provides it with its density.
Conjunctive tissue
A supporting tissue made up of collagen fibres ensuring the resistance and the firmness of organs such as the skin. Its elasticity and its faculty to undergo deformations are enabled by thinner fibres, the elastic fibres, which are made up of another protein, elastin.
Cystin
A sulfured amino acid (see Sulfured amino acids) that is obtained exclusively through food. It is indispensable in the formation of good keratin.
Céramids
Complex lipids found in the skin intercellular cement, resulting from the condensation of a fatty acid with an amino alcohol: the sphingosine.
