The role of omega 3 (ALA) in the fight against dryness of the skin
Food plays an important role in the defence against aggression which is responsible for skin dryness. In fact, various clinical trials indicate the need for food that is rich in omega-3 essential fatty acids to restore the skin’s integrity, to maintain a good level of hydration, and to soothe it. In the case of imbalance, a nutritional supplement can be useful.
1- The structural role of the omega 3
The omega 3 incorporate themselves into the membrane phospholipids.
A supplement in ALA (precursor omega-3 essential fatty acids), increases the level of omega 3 in the skin’s cells. After 2 weeks, the cell membranes contain:
-3 times more ALA
-twice as much EPA
-once more the amount of DHA
The omega 3 give elasticity and resistance to the skin and contribute to its role as a barrier.
2- The anti-inflammatory role of the omega 3 After taking one month’s supplement of ALA, an intake of omega 3 significantly diminishes the level of a mediator of inflammation in the epidermic cells: the PGE 2 (prostaglandine 2). The skin is soothed.
