Obesity : we are all concerned


In France, there are about 14 million people who are overweight, and 6 million who are obese. In fact, 41.6% of those over the age of 15 are either overweight or obese*. Furthermore, this figure has been continually increasing over the last few years. In 2020**, if people in France do not change their eating habits, 20% of the population will be obese…
The public health service thus aims to reduce the number of obese people, since its consequences with regard to our health are very worrying (an impact on the cardio-vascular system, diabetes, high blood pressure, respiration problems). We therefore need to have a responsible attitude with regard to our food intake so that the tendency of these figures to rise can be reversed…
In order to know whether an individual is overweight, the nutritionists use the Body Mass Index or BMI = Weight in kilos/Height (meters²). When this index is more than 25, it means that you are overweight.
